Job summary

Teaching Personnel are seeking a confident and compassionate Behaviour Teaching Assistant to join an Alternative Provision Base within a secondary school in Newport, South Wales. The role supports students with behavioural or SEMH needs, helping them access learning with structure and consistency.

You will work with teaching and pastoral staff to build confidence, emotional resilience and positive learning behaviours, through one-to-one and small group support in a caring environment.

Qualifications

• Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
• EWC registration (support provided if required).
• Two professional references covering a 24-month period.
• Completion of a Level 2 Safeguarding course during onboarding.
• Be over the age of 18.

Behaviour Support Coach – (Secondary School)

Location: Newport, South Wales
Pay Rate: £92.63 Daily rate
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm
Contract: September Start – End of Academic Year (Immediate start for the right applicant)

Teaching Personnel are currently seeking a confident and compassionate Behaviour Teaching Assistant to join an Alternative Provision Base within a secondary school setting.

This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about helping young people overcome challenges and re‑engage with education. The provision supports students who may experience behavioural difficulties, SEMH needs, or barriers that impact their learning within a mainstream classroom environment.

Working within a smaller, supportive setting, you will play an important role in helping students develop confidence, emotional resilience, and positive learning behaviours.

About the Position

As a Behaviour Teaching Assistant, you will support students throughout the school day by providing encouragement, structure, and consistency. You will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to help students access learning, manage behaviour positively, and build stronger relationships within school.

The role involve:

• Supporting students on a one-to-one basis or in small intervention groups
• Helping students remain engaged during lessons and activities
• Encouraging positive communication and social interaction
• Contributing to a safe and nurturing learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for individuals who:

• Have experience working with children or young people
• Are resilient, patient, and able to remain calm under pressure
• Have strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Can build trust and positive relationships with students
• Are passionate about supporting students with additional behavioural or emotional needs
• Work well within a team environment

Experience within education, youth work, coaching, care, mentoring, or SEMH support would be highly beneficial.

Candidate Requirements

Applicants will need:

• An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
• EWC registration (support provided if required)
• Two professional references covering a 24-month period
• Completion of a Level 2 Safeguarding course during onboarding
• To be over the age of 18
