Job summary

Flourish Education is recruiting Behaviour Mentors to work with pupils in secondary schools across Walsall and surrounding areas. A chance for graduates or experienced youth workers to make a real difference.

Able to build positive relationships and support pupils facing behavioural, confidence or learning challenges, you will bring a calm, patient approach and resilience to daily classroom interactions. This role is based across Walsall and surrounding towns.

Qualifications

  • Graduate with a degree from a UK university is desirable.
  • Experience working with children or young people is desirable.
  • Experience in education, youth work, mentoring, care or similar is desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Calm, patient and resilient approach.

Responsibilities

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support to pupils.
  • Building positive and professional relationships with young people.
  • Supporting pupils who experience behavioural or emotional difficulties.
  • Helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
  • Encouraging pupils to engage positively with their education.
  • Supporting pupils to develop confidence and self-esteem.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and setting clear expectations.
  • Acting as a positive role model for pupils.
  • Supporting pupils to make positive choices.
  • Helping pupils develop their social and communication skills.
  • Supporting pupils inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Managing challenging situations calmly and professionally.
  • Working alongside teachers and the wider pastoral team.
  • Supporting behaviour and pastoral interventions.
  • Encouraging pupils to develop resilience and independence.
  • Monitoring pupil progress and contributing to reviews where appropriate.

Job description

Flourish Education are currently recruiting Behaviour Mentors to work within secondary schools across Walsall and the surrounding areas.

Are you a graduate or experienced support worker looking for a rewarding role working with young people? Do you have a calm, patient and confident approach and enjoy helping others overcome challenges? This could be an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience within a secondary school while making a genuine difference to pupils.

We are looking for enthusiastic Behaviour Mentors who can build positive relationships with young people and support pupils who may experience difficulties with behaviour, confidence, engagement or learning. Your experience from education, youth work, mentoring, care, community work, coaching or other roles supporting young people could be highly transferable to this position.

Perhaps you are a recent graduate considering a career in teaching, an experienced youth worker looking to move into education, or someone with a natural ability to connect with young people and encourage positive behaviour. Previous school experience is desirable but not essential. We are particularly interested in candidates who are resilient, approachable and able to remain calm and consistent when supporting challenging behaviour.

The role will involve:

Required Skills and Experience for this Behaviour Mentor role:
  • Graduate with a degree from a UK university is desirable
  • Experience working with children or young people is desirable
  • Experience in education, youth work, mentoring, care, support work or a similar setting is desirable
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with young people
  • Calm, patient and resilient approach
  • Confidence when dealing with challenging behaviour
  • Ability to remain professional under pressure
  • Strong ability to motivate and encourage others
  • Good teamwork and communication skills
  • Professional and reliable approach
  • Passion for supporting young people to succeed
  • Previous secondary school experience is desirable but not essential
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH or behavioural needs is desirable
Working for Flourish Education as a Behaviour Mentor, you will receive:
  • £100 to £110 per day, depending on experience, which equates to approximately £19,500 to £21,450 per annum based on working 5 days a week for a full school year

This Behaviour Mentor opportunity is based across Walsall and the surrounding areas, with a range of longer-term opportunities available within secondary schools.

The role is easily commutable from Walsall, Bloxwich, Aldridge, Brownhills, Pelsall, Willenhall, Rushall, Darlaston, Wednesbury and surrounding areas.

Depending on the location of the school, opportunities may also be accessible from nearby areas including Wolverhampton, Sandwell, Birmingham, Dudley and Staffordshire.
