Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment in Whitstable is seeking dedicated Behaviour Mentors and Pastoral Support Workers to join SEMH schools across Thanet and surrounding areas. You will support pupils with SEMH needs in and out of the classroom, building positive relationships and promoting resilience.

This full-time role offers immediate starts, weekly PAYE pay, and the chance to make a real difference in young people's lives within specialist education.

Qualifications

• Experience in SEMH, SEND or mainstream school settings.
• Youth work, mentoring or pastoral support.
• Ability to work full-time Monday to Friday.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

• Support pupils with SEMH needs both in and out of the classroom.
• Build positive, trusting relationships that encourage engagement and personal development.
• Help de-escalate challenging situations using a calm, consistent and patient approach.
• Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies.
• Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams and senior leaders to support individual behaviour plans.
• Act as a positive role model, encouraging pupils to achieve their full potential both academically and socially.

Behaviour Mentor / Pastoral Support Assistant - SEMH Schools

Location: Thanet, Kent & surrounding areas (Margate, Broadstairs, Ramsgate, Birchington, Westgate)

Pay: £93.00 to £100.00 per day

Start Date: Immediate starts available

Contract: Full-time, ongoing opportunities (Monday to Friday)

Are you passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning? Tradewind Recruitment in Whitstable are working in partnership with a number of specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) schools across Thanet and the surrounding areas. We are currently recruiting Behaviour Mentors and Pastoral Support Workers to join dedicated school teams supporting children and young people who require additional behavioural and emotional support. These are rewarding, full-time positions for individuals who can build positive relationships, remain calm under pressure and help pupils develop confidence, resilience and self-belief.

The Role:

• Support pupils with SEMH needs both in and out of the classroom.

• SEMH, SEND or mainstream school settings.
• Youth work, mentoring or pastoral support.
• Residential childcare or supported living.
• Sports coaching or outdoor education.
• Care work, social care or community support.
• Military, prison, probation or security backgrounds with transferable behaviour management skills.

You will ideally have:

• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• A calm, resilient and patient approach.
• Confidence managing challenging behaviour positively.
• A genuine passion for helping vulnerable young people succeed.
• The ability to commit to full-time work, Monday to Friday.
