Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment are seeking a passionate Behaviour Support Learning Mentor to join a welcoming school in Woodbridge, Suffolk. This full-time, long-term role starts September 2026 and provides steady day-to-day support for pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.

You will work with teachers and pastoral teams to help pupils regulate emotions, stay engaged, and achieve positive progress, both in class and during unstructured times.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and SEMH needs.
  • Calm, patient and resilient in challenging situations.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with young people and maintain boundaries.

Responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with behavioural and emotional difficulties.
  • Building positive relationships and serving as a supportive role model.
  • Helping pupils regulate emotions and manage challenging behaviour.
  • Supporting engagement and learning in classroom and throughout the day.
  • Maintaining records of interventions and pupil progress.
  • Collaborating with teachers and SEN teams.

Behaviour Support Learning Mentor - Woodbridge

Location: Woodbridge, Suffolk

Contract: Full-time, long-term

Are you passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning and make positive changes to their behaviour? Tradewind Recruitment are currently seeking an enthusiastic and resilient Behaviour Support Learning Mentor to join a welcoming school in the Woodbridge area of Suffolk. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Learning Mentor, Behaviour Mentor, Teaching Assistant or similar professional who is confident supporting pupils with challenging behaviour, SEMH needs and barriers to learning.

The Role

As a Behaviour Support Learning Mentor, you will play a key role in helping pupils to manage their behaviour, develop positive relationships and re-engage with education. You will provide consistent support to pupils who may experience difficulties with emotional regulation, behaviour, social interaction or engagement with learning. Working closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral and SEN teams, you will help pupils develop the skills and confidence they need to make positive progress.

Key responsibilities
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils experiencing behavioural, emotional and social difficulties
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils and acting as a consistent and supportive role model
  • Supporting pupils to regulate their emotions and manage challenging behaviour
  • Helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and improve their engagement in school
  • Using appropriate behaviour management and de-escalation strategies when required
  • Supporting pupils who may display challenging, disruptive or dysregulated behaviour
  • Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff and the SEN team to identify individual needs and provide appropriate support
  • Encouraging pupils to develop confidence, resilience, independence and self-esteem
  • Supporting pupils both within the classroom and during less structured parts of the school day
  • Maintaining appropriate records of interventions, behaviour and pupil progress
  • Contributing to a positive, safe and inclusive school environment
About You

The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience working with children or young people who present challenging behaviour, SEMH needs or additional learning needs.

You will need to be calm, patient, resilient and confident when dealing with challenging situations. The ability to build strong relationships with young people while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries is essential. Experience of SEMH, behaviour support, restorative approaches, de-escalation or safeguarding would be highly desirable.
