Job summary

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a Behaviour & Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEN provision attached to a secondary school in Newport, South Wales. You will support pupils aged 11–16 who may have additional learning needs, autism, ADHD, SEMH needs, or behavioural challenges.

This role offers full-time and part-time opportunities with a September 2026 start, and a day rate of £92.63. Training is provided, with collaboration across teachers and SEN professionals to create a safe,

Qualifications

  • Experience working with young people or vulnerable individuals.
  • Enhanced DBS Update Service on request or willing to obtain.
  • EWC Registration or willingness to register.
  • Two professional references covering the last 24 months.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.
  • Full training and support will be provided throughout the registration process.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
  • Help students remain engaged and focused during lessons.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with learners.
  • Assist with emotional regulation and behaviour support strategies.
  • Encourage confidence, independence, and resilience.
  • Support teachers in delivering engaging learning activities.
  • Promote a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and SEN professionals.
