Job summary

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a dedicated Mainstream Teaching Assistant to work in a welcoming Newport secondary school supporting pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN). You will assist with delivering lessons and targeted support.

You’ll work one-to-one and in small groups, help pupils access the curriculum, develop confidence and achieve learning goals, and assist teachers in creating an inclusive classroom.

Qualifications

  • Right to work in the UK.
  • An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC), or willingness to register.
  • Two professional references covering the last 24 months.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with ALN during lessons.
  • Deliver one-to-one and small-group interventions.
  • Assist teachers in creating an inclusive classroom environment.
  • Help implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour strategies.
  • Encourage student engagement, independence and positive behaviour.
  • Build strong relationships with pupils, parents, teachers and the wider school team.
  • Monitor and report on student progress where required.

Contract: Fixed-Term with the opportunity to become long-term or permanent

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a dedicated Mainstream Teaching Assistant to work within a supportive secondary school, helping students with a range of additional needs thrive academically, socially and emotionally. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone with experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant, ALN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Support Worker looking to build a long-term career in education.

As a Teaching Assistant, you'll work alongside experienced teachers to provide targeted support for pupils with a variety of additional learning needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Global Developmental Delay
  • Prader-Willi Syndrome

You'll support students both on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, helping them access the curriculum, develop confidence and achieve their individual learning goals.

As a Mainstream Teaching Assistant, you will:
  • Support pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) during lessons.
  • Deliver one-to-one and small-group interventions.
  • Assist teachers in creating an inclusive classroom environment.
  • Help implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour strategies.
  • Encourage student engagement, independence and positive behaviour.
  • Build strong relationships with pupils, parents, teachers and the wider school team.
  • Monitor and report on student progress where required.
We're looking for someone who is:
  • Experienced working with children or young people with SEN/ALN.
  • Passionate about inclusive education.
  • Calm, patient and adaptable.
  • Confident supporting pupils with autism, ADHD or other additional needs.
  • An excellent communicator who works well within a team.
  • Qualified with a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (preferred but not essential for suitable experience).

Experience in schools, care settings, youth work, residential care, sports coaching or mentoring is highly desirable.
