Job description

Behaviour Learning Support Assistant (Diverse Needs & Behaviour Support)

Location: St Elizabeth's Centre, Much Hadham, Hertfordshire (Just 10 minutes from Bishop's Stortford and Harlow)

Contract: Term-time only (Monday to Friday, 36 weeks per year) Salary: £22,727 (£14.14 per hour)

Make a real difference. Provide consistent support. Help every learner thrive.

Some young people need a little more support to feel safe, understood and ready to learn.

This role is about being that consistent person.

You might have experience working with children with additional needs, in education, care, support work or another people-focused environment. Or you may be looking for a new direction and feel you have the patience, resilience and compassion to make a real difference.

Because when a young person feels understood, they have a better chance to thrive.

About St Elizabeth's Centre

Set within 60 acres of beautiful countryside, St Elizabeth's is a national charity supporting children, young people and adults with learning disabilities, epilepsy, and additional needs.

We provide a specialist School, College, residential care, supported living and on-site health services — all working together to help every individual Live Life to the Full.

Our values — Aspirational, Collaborative, Joyful and Compassionate — shape everything we do.

About the Role

This isn't a typical classroom support role

As a Behaviour Learning Support Assistant, you'll work closely with a small number of pupils, often providing 2:1 support, helping them feel settled, engaged and ready to take part in their day.

Our learners may experience challenges with communication, emotional regulation or behaviour. Your role will be to provide the consistency, structure and encouragement they need to navigate those challenges safely and positively.

You'll get to know each learner as an individual — what they enjoy, what helps them feel comfortable, what can be difficult for them and how best to support them.

You'll work alongside teachers, therapists and other professionals to put agreed strategies into practice and help create an environment where learners can develop their confidence and independence.

It's about understanding what someone needs, not simply reacting to what they do.

What you’ll be doing
  • Providing dedicated 2:1 support to pupils throughout the school day
  • Supporting learners to engage in education, build confidence and develop independence.
  • Using agreed strategies to support emotional regulation and behaviour
  • Helping to maintain a calm, structured, and predictable environment
  • Supporting transitions between activities and throughout the day
  • Working closely with teachers and therapists to deliver tailored support
  • Providing personal care where required, with dignity and respect.
  • Contributing to a team that celebrates progress — big and small.
What this role involves (important to know)

This role includes supporting pupils who may:

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Calm, patient and emotionally resilient.
  • Confident working with children who need additional support.
  • A strong team player with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Willing to provide personal care when required.
  • Motivated to learn, develop, and make a genuine difference.

  • Full training and ongoing development opportunities
  • £500 Recommend a Friend bonus(T&Cs apply)
