Job summary

St Elizabeth's Centre in Much Hadham, Hertfordshire, seeks a Midday Assistant to supervise pupils during lunchtime and support meals, manners and safe play. You’ll work as part of our education team, helping create a calm, welcoming environment across dining halls, classrooms and outdoor spaces.

Full training is provided and no prior school or care experience is required. The role is 11:00am–2:00pm, Monday to Friday during term time (39 weeks), with a salary of £8,512 per year (£12.71 per hour).

  • No prior school or care experience required; willing to learn and be part of a supportive team.
  • Candidate should be caring, reliable and focused on safeguarding and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise students during lunchtime in dining hall, classrooms and outdoor areas.
  • Assist with mealtime routines and help with eating where needed.
  • Promote good manners, safe play and respectful interactions.
  • Support inclusive, age-appropriate activities and manage behaviours calmly.

As a Midday Assistant, you'll help make those moments possible.

This is more than a lunchtime supervision role

You’ll be part of our specialist School in Much Hadham, supporting children and young people aged 5-16 with complex learning and additional needs.

You’ll get to know our students as individuals and understand the support they need to have a positive and enjoyable lunchtime.

Working alongside teachers, care staff and other professionals, you’ll help create a calm, safe and welcoming environment across the dining hall, classrooms and outdoor spaces.

No two lunchtimes will be quite the same. you could be helping a student with their meal, encouraging positive play, supporting communication and social interaction, or providing reassurance during a change in routine.

Sometimes it's the smallest moments that make the biggest difference.

About the Role

This is a great opportunity to join our education team and play an important part in making sure our students have a positive, safe and enjoyable experience during lunchtime.

You don’t need previous experience in a school or care setting. What matters most is that you’re caring, reliable and willing to learn. Full training and support will be provided

What you’ll do:
  • Supervise students during lunchtime in the dining hall, classrooms, and outdoor areas.
  • Support with mealtime routines, including assisting students with eating where required.
  • Promote good table manners, safe play, and respectful interactions.
  • Encourage engagement in inclusive, age-appropriate play and leisure activities.
  • Help manage behaviours calmly and appropriately, following student care plans.
  • Assist with setting up and tidying dining areas before and after service.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and nurturing environment for all pupils during break times.
