Job summary

Long Term Futures are partnering with a Derby-based academy to appoint a dedicated Behaviour & Learning Practitioner. The role is full-time term-time only, temporary with potential for permanent, starting 04/09/2026. You will support pupils aged 11-16 with SEMH and additional learning needs across KS3 and KS4. You will deliver tailored 1:1 and small-group support, collaborate with staff, monitor progress, and help build resilience.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, SEND, or within an Alternative Provision, PRU, or specialist education setting.
  • Calm, patient and resilient with excellent behaviour management.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs across KS3 and KS4.
  • Support pupils in and out of the classroom, promoting engagement and positive behaviour.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff and pastoral teams to deliver personalised support and intervention strategies.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships to help pupils develop confidence, resilience and independence.
  • Monitor pupil progress and contribute to a safe, structured learning environment.

The Opportunity:

Long Term Futures are working in partnership with a specialist Alternative Provision Academy in Derby (DE24) to appoint a dedicated Behaviour & Learning Practitioner. The academy supports pupils aged 11-16 who have been referred from mainstream schools or the Local Authority due to behavioural, social, emotional, or additional learning needs. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to work within a nurturing and inclusive environment, supporting young people to overcome barriers to education, develop positive relationships, and achieve successful outcomes both inside and outside the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEMH, behavioural, and additional learning needs across KS3 and KS4.
  • Support pupils both in and out of the classroom, promoting engagement, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and pastoral teams to deliver personalised support and intervention strategies.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships that help pupils develop confidence, resilience, and independence.
  • Monitor pupil progress and contribute to creating a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.

About You:

  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, SEND, or within an Alternative Provision, PRU, or specialist education setting.
  • Calm, patient, and resilient, with excellent behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
  • Confident supporting pupils both academically and pastorally to help them overcome barriers to learning.
  • A proactive team player with excellent communication skills and a genuine passion for improving outcomes for vulnerable young people.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one, is essential.
