Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Support clinicians with the provision of complex Voice Output Communication Aids and Environmental Control systems, including preparation and during appointments, interpreting clinician requirements and inputting client preferences.
- Prepare demonstration resources and resources for client provision, including symbol communication books using software like The Grid, Boardmaker, or Communicate in Print, and program vocabulary onto Voice Output Communication Aids and environmental control resources.
- Maintain a basic understanding of communication impairments and Augmentative and Alternative Communication systems, including sign language, gestures, and non-verbal methods.
- Understand the impact of disability on functioning.
- Communicate effectively with team members via phone, email, and face-to-face methods.
- Assist in collection and delivery of equipment, involving interaction with carers and families, and travel within the West Midlands region.
- Undertake driving duties throughout the West Midlands, potentially using Trust pool cars.
- Request stationery and equipment to support assessments and provisions.
- Work with technical, stock, and clinical support teams to ensure equipment is maintained, including software updates.
- Support stock control functions such as decontamination, preparation, and delivery of ACT equipment.
- Work independently and as part of a team, seeking assistance when needed.
- Maintain accurate clinical records in line with professional and Trust standards.
- Demonstrate emotional resilience when working with clients with life-limiting conditions, communication difficulties, and physical disabilities.
- Contribute to client care development by attending team meetings.
- Develop and maintain skills through supervision, appraisal, and training.
- Participate in training courses, including logistics and resource preparation.
- Support marketing and advertisement of courses, manage bookings and payments, and liaise with external companies for demonstrations and training.
- Use software like Microsoft Office to manage bookings, resources, and training data.
- Ensure equipment is well-maintained and transported safely.
Person specification
Qualifications
- GCSEs including Maths and English at grade C or equivalent
- Computer literacy
Desirable qualifications
- A levels or above in Business, IT, Psychology, or Healthcare
Experience
- Relevant experience in a professional or technical environment, including healthcare, education, or retail
- Experience working with people with disabilities
- Teamwork experience
