Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust Cardiopulmonary team as an Echocardiography Support Worker. The post holder will be actively engaged in all aspects of support for the Echocardiography service playing a crucial role in assisting with cardiac imaging procedures. Responsibilities and tasks include explaining examination procedures and supporting patients during diagnostic tests, recording and inputting of patients height, weight and blood pressure. Checking equipment and ensuring its in working order. Reviewing physician orders and patient schedules. Inputting patient information into the system. Providing ambulatory assistance to help patients feel at ease during the process. Supporting specialist echo techniques, including stress and contrast echo. Collaborating with cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and other healthcare professionals.
Main duties of the jobTo assist the Echocardiographers and administrative staff with all working practices to ensure an efficient standard of service is maintained. To assist the Echocardiographers, by providing a high standard of patient care before, during and after the examination including obtaining patients height, weight and blood pressure in accordance with instructions and training received. Deal with enquiries and take action, where appropriate, and passing information promptly to the appropriate member of staff. Maintaining accurate computer data and filing. Ensure the correct Decontamination and Infection Control measures are in place for effective cleaning of ultrasound probes where applicable to ensure best practice and guard against infection. Ensure clinical area is prepared and maintained as appropriate to individual patient needs, ensuring areas are stocked appropriately. Complete daily checklists specific to each work area and take appropriate action where necessary. Perform any other duties appropriate to the grade, as instructed by the Head of Department. To attend Trust mandatory courses i.e. fire, manual handling, Health and Safety courses.

Inspect relevant equipment used and ensure compliance with Health and Safety standards at all times.
Visually and verbally risk-assess every patient prior to carrying out any clinical investigation.
To assist the Echocardiographers and administrative staff with all working practices to ensure an efficient standard of service is maintained.
To assist the Echocardiographers, by providing a high standard of patient care before, during and after the examination including obtaining patients height, weight and blood pressure in accordance with instructions and training received.
Maintain effective communication with patients, relatives and members of the Multidisciplinary team regarding all aspects of care demonstrating a range of appropriate communication skills. Deal with enquiries and taking action, where appropriate, and passing information promptly to the appropriate member of staff.
Maintaining accurate computer data and filing.
Show a sympathetic and caring approach to patients and to observe patient confidentiality at all times.
To liaise with porters, receptionists and wards regarding transportation of patients to and from the dept. To assist in moving trolleys and chairs within the hospital and help with transferring patients on and off examination couches.
Ensure the correct Decontamination and Infection Control measures are in place for effective cleaning of ultrasound probes where applicable to ensure best practice and guard against infection - includes awareness of correct procedures, equipment validation and maintenance, record keeping and archive
Ensure clinical area is prepared and maintained as appropriate to individual patient needs, ensuring areas are stocked appropriately. Complete daily checklists specific to each work area and take appropriate action where necessary
Perform any other duties appropriate to the grade, as instructed by the Head of Department.
To attend Trust mandatory courses i.e. fire, manual handling, Health and Safety courses
To maintain Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
To maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Information concerning the Trusts patients and staff must be always treated as strictly confidential and you may not divulge it to any other person except with the authority of your Head of Department. Such authority may only be given when it is in the patients interest and is a necessary part of treatment. Unauthorised disclosure of confidential information will result in disciplinary action and may lead to your dismissal.
