Job summary

Ole & Steen is seeking a Bakery Assistant to support daily bakery production from ingredient prep to packing. The role emphasizes accurate weighing, following recipes, and maintaining hygiene standards in a fast-paced bakery environment.

You will assist Bakers with breads, viennoiserie, and pastries, operate bakery equipment safely, and help with packing, labeling and quality checks. Shift flexibility and a positive attitude are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in food production or bakery desirable but not essential.
• Ability to follow written recipes and production instructions.
• Good attention to detail and basic numerical skills.
• Reliable, punctual and dependable with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.

Bakery Assistant

We need a reliable, motivated Bakery Assistant to support daily production of our high-quality bakery products — from ingredient prep through to packing — with real attention to detail and hygiene standards.

THE OPPORTUNITY

• £13.80 per hour
• 5 days out of 7, including 1 weekend day
• 45 hours per week
• Reporting to the Team Leader

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Previous experience in food manufacturing or bakery production desirable but not essential
• Ability to follow written recipes, production instructions and work standards
• Good attention to detail and basic numerical skills
• Reliable, punctual and dependable, with a positive attitude and willingness to learn
• Comfortable working in hot, cold and humid environments, and able to lift/move products up to 20kg
• Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2) desirable, or willingness to obtain
• Flexible to work varying shifts, including early mornings, evenings and weekends where required

A DAY IN THE LIFE

• Preparing ingredients and raw materials to recipe and production plan, weighing accurately
• Assisting Bakers in producing breads, viennoiserie, pastries and other products
• Operating bakery equipment safely, following standard operating procedures
• Supporting dough handling, proving, baking prep and finishing
• Packing, labelling and preparing products to company quality standards
• Carrying out visual quality checks and reporting defects immediately
• Maintaining high housekeeping standards, clean-as-you-go, and correct waste disposal
• Assisting with stock rotation (FIFO) and replenishment
• Working collaboratively with Bakers, Team Leaders, Technical, Stores and Pick & Pack
