Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) seeks a Service Transition Lead to drive the controlled migration of HMRC workloads from the data centre to the AWS platform. You will own the transition plan, define acceptance criteria, and chair review boards to ensure readiness before go-live.

You will ensure all operational documentation is produced, runbooks created, and the CMDB is updated. Strong ITIL, stakeholder management and cloud experience are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Experience managing stakeholders across varied levels.
• Service Transition Lead in large IT transformation or data centre exit programmes.
• Strong ITIL knowledge: Transition, Operation, CSI.
• Experience in AWS/public cloud operations.
• Experience in UK public sector programmes.
• Strong documentation and governance to enforce standards.
• Excellent communication and facilitation to lead review boards.
• Experience with service acceptance testing and readiness assessments.
• Familiarity with Agile and PRINCE2.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end service transition for workloads migrating to AWS.
• Develop and maintain the Service Transition Plan aligned with milestones.
• Define and manage service acceptance criteria with the R&O Lead.
• Chair AWS Service Transition Review Boards for handover approval.
• Produce operational artefacts: Runbooks, SOPs, architecture docs, monitoring configs.
• Identify and manage transition risks, dependencies, issues; resolve them.
• Coordinate Early Life Support periods with entry/exit criteria.
• Ensure knowledge transfer to the R&O team with evidence.
• Maintain service catalogue and CMDB entries for transitioned services.
• Provide transition status reporting and readiness dashboards.
• Interface with HMRC stakeholders for acceptance and expectations.
• Contribute to ongoing improvement of the R&O operating model.
