Autonomy Software Engineer – Secure DevOps & AI Ready

Job summary

SII UK invites a Software Engineer for Autonomy to support development, deployment and evolution of software, data and AI capabilities across defence and technology-focused environments. You’ll join a new software team, delivering scalable, secure solutions and contributing to digital transformation initiatives.

Applicants should have strong C++ skills, Linux/Windows experience, Python knowledge and a background in regulated industries. UK Security Clearance (SC) eligibility is welcome.

Qualifications

• Strong C++ development experience and knowledge of safety-critical programming
• Experience on Linux and/or Windows platforms
• Knowledge of Python and modern software practices
• Experience creating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
• Understanding of DevOps, DevSecOps and Agile methodologies
• Experience with cloud technologies, APIs and microservices
• Knowledge of databases such as MySQL or MongoDB
• Experience with autonomy systems integration or autonomous software architectures
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Experience delivering software in regulated defence/aerospace environments
• Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Degree or equivalent in engineering/software discipline
• Eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC)

Responsibilities

• Develop, test and deploy secure software solutions.
• Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support automated delivery.
• Develop reusable and scalable software capabilities.
• Support software products throughout their lifecycle.
• Conduct code reviews, debugging and troubleshooting.
• Contribute to secure development practices and threat modelling.
• Work with architects and engineers to deliver integrated solutions.
• Implement APIs and third-party integrations.
• Produce high-quality technical documentation.
• Support innovation activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
