Job summary

GUARDIAN SELECTION LIMITED Newcastle is seeking compassionate Autism Support Workers to place in Sunderland schools. You will support pupils with ASC, help access learning, and foster confidence in an inclusive classroom environment.

You will work with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals, implement communication and behaviour strategies, and help pupils develop social and academic skills. DBS enhanced required; safeguarding checks apply.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
  • Patient, empathetic and adaptable approach when supporting young people.
  • A background in education, care, youth work or similar is advantageous.

Are you a compassionate and dedicated Autism Support Worker with a passion for helping children and young people thrive?

GSL Education Newcastle are seeking enthusiasticAutism Support Workersto work in schools acrossSunderland. The successfulAutism Support Workerwill provide tailored support to pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), helping them access learning, develop social and communication skills, and build confidence within the school environment. Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals, you will play a vital role in creating a positive and inclusive learning experience for every student.

Responsibilities of an Autism Support Worker:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
  • Assist students in accessing the curriculum and engaging in classroom activities.
  • Implement strategies to support communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and SEN staff to support individual learning and development goals.
  • Promote positive behaviour and support students in managing transitions and daily routines.
  • Adapt learning materials and activities to meet the specific needs of individual pupils.
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and participation in school life.

Requirements of an Autism Support Worker:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) is desirable.
  • Experience working within education, care, youth work, support work, or a similar setting is advantageous.
  • A strong understanding of autism and associated communication, sensory, and behavioural needs.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting young people.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
