Job summary

Schools Mutual Services is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with complex ASC at a South Shields primary school on a full-time basis. You will provide 1:1 support, assist with communication and emotional regulation, and help implement structured routines and behaviour strategies.

The role offers ongoing professional development within a supportive multi-disciplinary team and opportunities to transition to a permanent contract after a trial period.

Qualifications

Job description

Are you an experienced and committed Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)? We are working in partnership with a welcoming and forward-thinking primary school in SouthShields that is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with complex ASC needs on a full-time basis.

The Role

  • Provide 1:1 support for a pupil with complex ASC needs
  • Support communication, emotional regulation, and engagement in learning
  • Implement structured routines and behaviour support strategies
  • Assist with personal care where required, ensuring dignity and safety
  • Work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals
  • Contribute to a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment About the School

  • Experience in a specialist provision or ASC unit
  • Knowledge of approaches such as visual supports, structured teaching, or intensive interaction
