Job summary

Engage Education is looking for a dedicated Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join a mainstream primary school in Leeds. You will work 1:1 with pupils who have Autism and communication needs, supporting learning, confidence and social development.

The role requires SEN experience and the ability to adapt communication and learning approaches to individual needs. This is a full-time, long-term position, Monday to Friday, 08:30–15:30, term-time only, ASAP start.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with SEN.
• Experience supporting children with Autism and/or communication needs.
• Ability to adapt communication and learning approaches to meet individual needs.
• Patient, calm, nurturing and resilient.
• Capable of building strong one-to-one relationships with a pupil.
• Reliable and committed to a full-time, long-term position.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated one-to-one support to pupils with Autism and communication needs.
• Support pupils to access and engage with their learning within the mainstream classroom.
• Adapt activities and learning approaches to meet individual needs.
• Support the development of communication, social interaction and independence skills.
• Use strategies to encourage positive behaviour and engagement.
• Build a strong relationship with the pupil and work with the class teacher and SENCO.
• Follow individual support plans and monitor pupil progress.
• Provide encouragement and reassurance to help pupils develop confidence.
• Support pupils during lessons, transitions, break times and other aspects of the school day.
• Create a calm, structured and inclusive environment where the pupil feels safe and supported.
