Job summary

Protocol Education is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with autism and additional learning needs in a welcoming school environment. This paid role offers hands-on experience in SEND, opportunities for professional development, and collaboration with teachers, parents and a supportive leadership team to foster each pupil's development.

Experience with children or young people is valuable, and candidates with transferable skills and a positive attitude are encouraged

Job description

We’re working with a welcoming and supportive school to find a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with autism and additional learning needs. With an experienced leadership and teaching team around you, you’ll receive ongoing support while becoming an important part of the pupil’s day‑to‑day learning and development.

The Role

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you’ll provide tailored support to help a pupil engage with learning, develop their confidence and build independence.

You’ll be someone who:

• Can remain calm, patient and compassionate in challenging situations
• Has an understanding of, or genuine interest in, SEND and autism
• Takes an individualised approach to supporting learning and communication
• Is creative, adaptable and confident thinking outside the box
• Cares about pupils’ academic, emotional, social and personal development
• Builds positive, trusting relationships with pupils
• Has a supportive and encouraging approach that helps pupils feel safe, valued and motivated
• Works effectively as part of a wider team, including teachers, support staff and parents/carers
• Can use initiative and adapt support in response to an individual pupil’s communication, sensory and learning needs
• Is reliable, proactive and committed to making a positive difference every day

Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND is desirable, but we’re also keen to hear from candidates with transferable experience and the right attitude.
