GSL Education Hull branch in York is hiring an Autism Learning Support Assistant to help students access lessons and participate in school life. You will provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with ASC, adapting activities and resources as needed.

You will work with teachers and SEND staff to implement tailored support, promote emotional regulation and social development, and maintain a calm, inclusive learning environment in a specialist setting.

Job Title:Autism Learning Support Assistant

Salary Scale: £92 - £115 per day (Depending on experience)

Are you a resilient and compassionate Learning Support Assistant with an understanding of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)? Do you have the patience, adaptability, and confidence to support young people with different autism profiles and help them overcome barriers to learning?

GSL Education Hull branch are currently hiring a dedicated Autism Learning Support Assistant to work within a specialist secondary educational setting in York. We are looking for someone who is familiar with ASC profiles and can provide consistent, personalised support to students with a range of communication, sensory, social, and learning needs.

As an Autism Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and specialist support staff to help students access the curriculum and participate positively in school life. You will provide structured support that promotes communication, emotional regulation, independence, and confidence while maintaining a calm and predictable learning environment.

Main Responsibilities as an Autism Learning Support Assistant:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with Autism Spectrum Condition, adapting your approach to their individual profiles.
  • Assist students in accessing lessons by adapting activities, communication methods, and learning resources where appropriate.
  • Use consistent and supportive strategies to promote emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and engagement.
  • Build trusting relationships with students while encouraging independence, confidence, and social development.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and SEND staff to implement individual support strategies and monitor student progress.
  • Help maintain a calm, structured, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that meets students' sensory and communication needs.

Autism Learning Support Assistant Minimum Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) or SEND is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with different ASC profiles and an understanding of how autism can affect communication, behaviour, sensory processing, and learning.
  • A resilient, patient, and adaptable approach when supporting students with diverse and sometimes complex needs.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
