Job summary

Forvis Mazars is seeking an Audit Assistant Manager (SN2) to lead multiple engagements in the public sector, including local authorities and NHS bodies. You will supervise junior staff, manage client communications, and ensure timely, high-quality audit delivery.

The role requires ACA/CA/ACCA (or equivalent) and strong UK GAAP/IFRS knowledge, with a focus on building client relationships and driving process improvements within a values-driven environment.

Qualifications

• ACA/CA/ACCA or equivalent qualification required.
• Experience in external audit, ideally with publicly funded bodies such as local authorities, NHS or government-aligned organisations.
• Experience leading audits from planning through completion with increasing responsibility.
• Strong knowledge of UK GAAP/FRS 102, IFRS and the Companies Act.
• Excellent client relationship management and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Audit delivery – lead audits for local government and public sector bodies from planning to completion.
• Plan and scope audits, manage resources and timelines.
• Apply up-to-date technical knowledge (UK GAAP/FRS 102, IFRS, Companies Act) and escalate complex matters.
• Draft key reporting outputs and review with Managers/Partners.
• Supervise and coach junior staff, review work, provide feedback.
• Support growth of junior team members through guidance and training.
• Ensure quality and regulatory compliance across files and firm methodologies.
• Build professional relationships with clients and respond to queries promptly.
• Monitor time against budgets and assist with billing; identify cross-sell opportunities.
• Collaborate with colleagues across service lines and contribute to firm initiatives.
