Job summary

Staffordshire County Council’s Specialist Opportunities team is recruiting for a daytime driver-support worker at The Pipers in Newcastle. The role is 31.5 hours per week across four days, with shifts from 8.45am to 4.30pm, offering meaningful activities and support for adults with learning disabilities and autism.

You will drive, support personal care, and liaise with families, with DBS and health checks required as part of onboarding. Flexibility across sites may apply.

Qualifications

• Current D1 driving license is required.
• Minimum of 3 years driving experience.
• Experience of working with people with learning disabilities and autism.
• ICT skills to complete digital record keeping.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to assist with personal care and mobility needs, including moving and handling.

Responsibilities

• Drive vehicles, including adapted vehicles and minibuses.
• Ensure safe and dignified travel for the people we support.
• Carry out vehicle and equipment checks and basic maintenance.
• Support with personal care tasks as required.
• Liaise professionally with individuals and their families as the first point of contact.
• Be prepared to open and close the building as required.

You will be expected to work flexibly across the week according to business need. Rotas are subject to change depending on business need. Although this role is based primarily at The Pipers in Newcastle, there may be times when you are expected to work flexibly across Provider Services, including different care settings, delivery approaches, and locations, as required. The post will be 31.5 hours per week over 4 days. The hours are: Monday to Friday 8.45am to 4.30pm (4 days). A pre-employment health assessment and an enhanced DBS check will be required.

Main Responsibilities

• Drive vehicles, including adapted vehicles and minibuses.
• Be responsible for the safe and dignified travel of the people we support
• Complete vehicle and equipment checks, minor routine maintenance tasks, and vehicle cleaning.
• Support with care tasks as required, including personal care and manual handling.
• Liaise professionally with individuals and their families, acting as a first point of contact
• You may be required to be responsible for the opening and closing of the building.

Minimum Criteria

• Current D1 driving license
• Minimum of 3 years driving experience
• Experience of working with people with learning disabilities and autism
• ICT skills to complete digital record keeping
• Have effective communication and interpersonal skills
• To be able to physically assist in the personal care needs and/ or the behavioural support needs of service users, which will include some moving and handling, the ability to support people who use a wheelchair in the community and the ability to support with behavioural needs.

If you already hold an NVQ level 2 qualification or Care Certificate we would love to hear from you but don't worry if not, we are happy to support you in gaining the skills and knowledge needed for this qualification. Please note that this role will require an enhanced DBS check and a pre-employment health assessment as part of the onboarding process.
