Job description

We are seeking an experienced investment hire at Associate level into Hayfin's expanding Real Estate team.

You will work on a broad range of real estate transactions across Europe, spanning opportunistic credit and equity / asset investments (e.g., whole loans, mezzanine / preferred equity, structured solutions, recapitalisations and direct acquisitions), across both primary and secondary opportunities. As part of a wider private credit team you may also have the opportunity to work in non-real estate situations.

Deal teams are small (typically 2–3 people), so you will be encouraged and expected to take ownership of workstreams, contribute to investment thesis formation, and participate actively in internal investment committees.

You will be based in London and will have the opportunity to work closely with colleagues across Europe in Paris, Frankfurt, Madrid and Milan.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assessment of new investment opportunities across the capital stack from debt to equity. In-depth analysis, underwriting and financial modelling (cashflows, lease analysis, capex, debt structuring and exit scenarios)
  • Participation in all aspects of due diligence, including coordination of third-party advisors and preparation/presentation of investment theses to internal committees
  • Involvement in the end-to-end investment process — including deal origination support, structuring and execution (including legal elements), as well as subsequent portfolio monitoring
  • Asset management support across the portfolio, including monitoring performance vs. business plan, reviewing budgets and capex programmes, tracking leasing/operational KPIs, and supporting financing and refinancing processes
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in real estate investing / underwriting (real estate private equity or credit, real estate investment banking, real estate advisory, restructuring or comparable buyside institutions)
  • Demonstrable asset and corporate-level underwriting capabilities (leasing and rent roll analysis, capex/business plan assessment, property-level cashflow modelling, valuation and exit analysis)
  • Prior exposure to asset management (or strong interest and aptitude for it) considered a plus
  • Excellent academic background and track record
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Effective organisational and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Fluency in English (written and verbal); French and/or German strongly preferred (additional European languages a plus)
