Associate Mechanical Engineer - Data Centre

Role Overview

The business is seeking an experienced Associate Mechanical Engineer to join their dynamic engineering team. The role involves designing and developing Data Centre/Mission Critical facilities. It offers a great opportunity for a professional who thrives in a multidisciplinary environment, contributing from concept development to final commissioning support.

Primary Objectives

  • Assist the Group Leader in project delivery, supporting junior engineers while ensuring technical quality and professionalism.
  • Complete all design activities on schedule and to high standards.
  • Support training and mentoring within the team.
  • Produce detailed HVAC designs for Data Centres, collaborating with sales, technical, and project management teams.
  • Manage and develop engineering resources, ensuring technical excellence and regulatory compliance.
  • Work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering design from concept to detailed design stages.
  • Ensure outputs meet quality standards through reviews and checks.
  • Build and guide high-performing teams, setting objectives and monitoring progress.
  • Implement and oversee QA processes.
  • Integrate Health and Safety standards into design, in line with CDM regulations.
  • Follow relevant Quality Management Systems, including ISO 9001 and 14001.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Chartered Engineer status is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in Data Centre mechanical systems.
  • Minimum of 6 years in engineering design and project management.
  • Strong background in mechanical design at all project stages.
  • Experience coordinating with multiple stakeholders and disciplines.
  • Proficiency in HVAC systems for critical facilities, including resilience planning and advanced cooling systems (e.g., chilled water, adiabatic cooling).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 10 years of experience in mechanical design for commercial or institutional buildings.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, MS Project, and AutoCAD.
  • Leadership and project management experience.
  • Experience within architectural/engineering or consulting firms.
  • A commitment to contributing positively to a collaborative and supportive team culture.
