Associate Mechanical Engineer - Data Centre

Role Overview: The organisation is seeking an Associate Mechanical Engineer to join the dynamic engineering team. The role involves working on the design and development of Data Centre/Mission Critical facilities. It offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional who thrives in a multidisciplinary environment, contributing from concept development through to final commissioning support.

Primary Objectives
  • Assist the Group Leader in project delivery, leveraging support from junior engineers while upholding technical quality and professionalism.
  • Ensure all design activities are completed on schedule and to high standards.
  • Support training and mentoring of engineers within the group.
  • Produce detailed and installation HVAC designs for Data Centres in close collaboration with sales, technical, and project management teams.
  • Manage and develop engineering resources in response to project needs, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Collaborate effectively with wider multi-disciplinary teams.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead engineering design from concept through detailed design stages.
  • Ensure all group outputs meet technical and quality standards through regular internal reviews and checks.
  • Build and guide high-performing teams by setting objectives, monitoring progress, and fostering staff development.
  • Implement and oversee QA processes across all projects.
  • Ensure Health and Safety standards are integrated into design, in compliance with CDM regulations.
  • Adhere to relevant Quality Management Systems, including ISO 9001 and 14001.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Chartered Engineer status is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in Data Centre mechanical systems is essential.
  • Minimum of 6 years in engineering design and project management.
  • Strong background in mechanical design across all project stages.
  • Experience coordinating design with multiple stakeholders and disciplines.
  • Proficient in HVAC systems for critical facilities, including resilience planning and advanced cooling systems (e.g., chilled water and adiabatic cooling).
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 10 years of experience in mechanical design for commercial or institutional buildings.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, MS Project, and AutoCAD.
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management experience.
  • Experience with an architectural/engineering or consulting firm.
  • A strong commitment to contributing positively to a collaborative and supportive team culture.
