AECOM is seeking an experienced Associate Director to lead end-to-end HV substation design for major energy projects in the UK or Ireland. You will drive technical discussions with clients and multidisciplinary teams, and oversee delivery from concept through energisation.

You will apply lifecycle design principles, manage resourcing, and monitor project costs while fostering safety and quality. Hybrid working options support work-life balance in a dynamic infrastructure environment.

Qualifications

• Experience with consultancy, contractor, or utility in energy sector.
• Client experience with National Grid, SHET, SSE, SPT or similar UK/Ireland.
• Proven HV infrastructure design delivery from concept to detailed design.
• Strong understanding of electrical AC HV plant and equipment (AIS and GIS).
• Familiarity with National Grid standards and specifications.
• Bid development experience leading multi-discipline submissions (Data Centre, HV infra or grid connection).
• Design management and site construction review experience; primary plant focus emphasized.
• CDAE / LCDAE approval is advantageous.

Responsabilités

• Lead HV substation technical discussions with clients and multi-disciplinary teams; establish scopes and interfaces.
• Direct the technical delivery of substation design major projects; monitor progress and quality-check deliverables.
• Apply lifecycle expertise from grid connection studies to FEED and detailed design.
• Liaise with project management to develop resourcing forecasts and programmes aligned to schedules.
• Demonstrate commercial awareness through proposal development and project cost monitoring.
• Build trusted relationships with clients, understanding their grid connection strategies and availability.
• Champion safety in design principles across HV substation deliverables and compliance.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers to grow HV substation design capability.
