Role Overview

In a Nutshell…

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our team within Vistry East Yorkshire, based at our Leeds office. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will assist in the commercial delivery of residential development schemes. Your role will involve supporting the surveying department with cost management for development and contracting projects, from procurement through to the final accounts. The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role within a main contractor or developer in the region.

What we expect from you…

  • HNC in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or equivalent
  • Experience in the Construction industry as a Quantity Surveyor
  • Strong IT, analytical, and communication skills
  • Mathematical proficiency
  • Ability to assess and analyze information effectively
  • Understanding of budget management
  • Negotiation and networking skills
  • Familiarity with construction contracts, including standard forms
  • Ability to work under pressure within a team
  • Knowledge of construction methods like Timber Frame, Masonry, etc.
  • Experience with COINS software

Role responsibilities include but are not limited to…

  • Attending site pre-start meetings with the Commercial Manager
  • Assisting in compiling tender packages and analyzing tenders
  • Issuing and managing sub-contract orders in line with policies and budgets
  • Liaising with the Build Department on subcontractor performance
  • Producing and managing sub-contract documentation and budgets
  • Providing forecast and budget information to the Commercial Manager
  • Controlling and reporting on post-contract costs
  • Processing invoices and applications for payments
  • Using COINS software for project administration
  • Certifying retention releases and final accounts
  • Maintaining filing systems and documentation
  • Engaging in self-development and training
  • Participating in departmental meetings and communicating with colleagues
  • Adhering to health and safety policies and attending training
  • Working closely with project teams to minimize variations and control costs
  • Managing contract administration and monthly CVRs
  • Leading commercial activities with clients, including valuations and cash flow management
