Job description

Lufton College is a 52-week residential specialist college providing quality care and education for young people aged 16 to 25 with autism or related difficulties. Our curriculum prepares students for adulthood, focusing on personal development through classroom learning and outdoor activities such as animal therapy and nature-based programs.

The college is committed to ongoing improvement, enhancing the quality of education, environment, and collaboration among care, education, and clinical teams.

Located on the outskirts of Yeovil, the college spans over 40 acres across three sites, featuring forested areas, small farms, and outdoor spaces.

Main Responsibilities

• Lead strategic curriculum development and quality assurance for core areas such as Literacy and Numeracy.
• Conduct quality assurance activities like curriculum reviews, learning walks, observations, and analysis of student progress data.
• Manage and support professional development for SEN Tutors and Teachers, including leading training for Tutors aiming for Level 5 apprenticeships and QTLS.
• Provide coaching and training to staff to support continuous improvement.
• Act as Education Head in the absence of the Assistant Principal, ensuring smooth and safe operation of the education services.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance young people's skills and horizons.
• Participate in senior management activities, including meetings, KPI reviews, and action planning.
• Deliver up to 20% of timetable sessions in your specialization, including co-teaching to develop pedagogical skills.

Requirements

• Post-Graduate Certificate in Education
• Degree in a relevant subject applicable to college curriculum
• Minimum 2 years’ experience as a curriculum lead or in a similar role involving quality oversight or teacher coaching (NPQ qualification preferred)
• At least 3 years’ experience as a qualified teacher
• Knowledge of Gatsby Benchmarks for SEND
• Understanding of Autism, Learning Disabilities, and adaptive learning strategies for complex needs
• Familiarity with safeguarding policies, including Keeping Children Safe in Education and prevent agenda
• Valid driving license
