Job summary

St Elizabeth’s Sixth Form is seeking an Assistant Head Teacher to join the leadership team in Hertfordshire. The role requires steering a learner-centred curriculum while maintaining a 50% teaching commitment to stay connected with classroom practice.

You will lead with purpose, drive safeguarding, and collaborate with families and multidisciplinary professionals to ensure outstanding outcomes for students with complex needs.

Qualifications

  • Experience in inclusive education for learners with complex needs and SEND.
  • Strong leadership experience within a senior education role or progression to it.
  • Curriculum design, assessment and driving learner progress are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop and champion an ambitious, inclusive sixth form curriculum.
  • Inspire and develop teachers and Learning Support Assistants to achieve outstanding outcomes.
  • Drive CPD, coaching, mentoring, observation and high-quality professional development.

Assistant Head Teacher Location: St Elizabeth’s Sixth Form, Much Hadham, Hertfordshire (approx. 10 minutes from Bishop’s Stortford and Harlow) Contract: Permanent, full-time Salary: Senior Leadership Teachers’ Pay Scale + SEN Allowance (dependent on experience)

We're looking for an inspiring Assistant Head of Sixth Form to join our ambitious leadership team and help drive the continued development of our outstanding Sixth Form provision. About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate educator who is ready to take on a senior leadership position or further develop their existing leadership experience within a highly specialist setting.

You will play a pivotal role in delivering an ambitious, learner-centred curriculum, ensuring the very best outcomes for our students as they prepare for adulthood. Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you'll maintain a 50% teaching commitment, remaining connected to classroom practice and leading by example.

Working closely with the Deputy Head of Sixth Form, you will:

  • Lead, develop and champion a high-quality, ambitious and inclusive curriculum.
  • Inspire, motivate and develop teachers and Learning Support Assistants to achieve outstanding outcomes.
  • Drive continuous improvement through coaching, mentoring, observation and high-quality CPD.
  • Contribute to quality assurance, strategic planning and inspection readiness.
  • Champion safeguarding, wellbeing and positive learner outcomes.
  • Build strong partnerships with families, therapists and multidisciplinary professionals.
About you

We are looking for someone who is:

  • An outstanding classroom practitioner with a passion for inclusive education
  • Experienced in working with learners with SEND, including complex needs and PMLD.
  • A confident and supportive leader, able to motivate and develop others.
  • Skilled in curriculum design, assessment, and driving learner progress.
  • Knowledgeable in safeguarding, EHCP processes, and post-16 education frameworks
  • A strong communicator, able to engage a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Values-led, with a genuine commitment to making a difference.
