Job summary

CER Education Recruitment is seeking an Assistant Facilities Manager to support a busy facilities team across multiple sites in Newcastle upon Tyne. You will help ensure buildings are safe, compliant and well-maintained, while coordinating maintenance and supervising contractors.

You will work closely with the Facilities Manager, manage day-to-day operations and contribute to site security, health and safety monitoring, and accurate record-keeping.

Qualifications

• Experience in facilities management, maintenance, estates, building services, or a similar role.
• Knowledge of heating, ventilation and plumbing systems.
• Good understanding of health and safety, compliance, and security procedures.
• Experience managing contractors and external service providers.
• Ability to carry out site inspections and identify maintenance requirements.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Ability to prioritise workloads and work independently using initiative.
• Flexible approach to working hours and operational demands.
• Experience completing reports and maintaining accurate records.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day facilities operations across multiple sites.
• Carry out regular facilities inspections and implement remedial actions where required.
• Monitor and operate building services including heating, ventilation, and plumbing systems.
• Coordinate reactive and planned preventative maintenance activities.
• Open, close, and secure buildings in accordance with operational requirements.
• Supervise contractors and ensure work is completed safely and to agreed standards.
• Undertake minor maintenance and repair tasks as required.
• Support porterage, room set-ups, and general site operations.
• Maintain accurate records, compliance documentation, and inspection reports.
• Assist with health and safety monitoring, risk assessments, and site security procedures.
• Respond to facilities-related issues and emergencies promptly and effectively.
• Identify opportunities for ongoing improvements to facilities and services.
