Job summary

Ty Hafan is seeking an Assistant Facilities Manager to lead the operational delivery of facilities services and health and safety across the hospice estate. You will manage a small team and external contractors from Head Office, ensuring compliant, efficient services on-site five days a week.

The role requires hands-on leadership, strong contractor management, and a proactive safety culture. Based at Head Office, occasional site coordination and oversight of maintenance will be essential.

Qualifications

  • Health & Safety Qualification (IOSH or NEBOSH).
  • Experience leading a team in a multi-site FM environment with soft and hard services.
  • Strong people management to develop staff and volunteers.
  • Experience facilitating statutory and regulatory building compliance and inspection schedules.
  • Experience coordinating health & safety with risk assessments and incident management.
  • Solid knowledge of Facilities, Property and Health and Safety legislation.
  • Flexible, adaptable, solution-focused approach and good communication.

  • Lead day-to-day delivery of facilities services across all sites, supervising staff and volunteers.
  • Manage contractor performance, procurement, and supplier relationships for value and quality.
  • Oversee maintenance programmes, coordinating work to minimise disruption to hospice operations.
  • Ensure statutory and regulatory compliance across the estate with inspections and actions.
  • Drive health and safety coordination, risk assessments, and safe cultures among staff and contractors.
  • Manage budgets and report performance and risks to Head of Estates and Facilities.

About the role

The Assistant Facilities Manager leads the operational delivery of facilities services and day-to-day health and safety compliance across the Ty Hafan estate. Reporting to the Head of Estates and Facilities, the post holder line manages a small team, as well as a range of external contractors to deliver planned and reactive maintenance, statutory compliance, soft services and core health and safety processes across all sites.

This is a hands-on management role, requiring strong leadership of contractors, suppliers, staff and volunteers, acting as the visible point of contact for site users.

The role is based at our Head Office and requires attendance onsite Monday to Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm.

Key responsibilities
  • Leading and managing the day-to-day delivery of facilities services across all sites, supervising directly employed staff and volunteers to ensure high standards of service delivery.
  • Managing contractor performance and supplier relationships, including procurement, contract review and ensuring value for money and quality of work.
  • Overseeing planned and reactive maintenance programmes, prioritising and coordinating work to minimise disruption to hospice operations.
  • Managing statutory and regulatory compliance across the estate, maintaining inspection and audit schedules and ensuring timely close-out of actions.
  • Leading on health and safety coordination, including risk assessments, incident management and embedding a positive safety culture among staff, contractors and volunteers.
  • Managing budgets and expenditure relating to facilities and maintenance activity, reporting performance and risks to the Head of Estates and Facilities.
About you

As the ideal candidate you will have/be:

  • Health & Safety Qualification (IOSH or NEBOSH).
  • Experience of working as part of a team in a multi-site Facilities Management environment managing soft and hard services, effectively managing reactive and planned maintenance tasks and contract procurement and supplier management.
  • Good people management skills, able to develop and motivate others to succeed.
  • Experience of facilitating statutory and regulatory building compliance and maintaining inspection schedules.
  • Experience of health & safety coordination as well as identifying potential risk and opportunities, creating and evaluating risk assessments.
  • Sound knowledge of Facilities, Property and Health and Safety legislation.
  • Flexible, adaptable and solution focused, with a methodical approach to work.
  • Excellent communication and service delivery skills.
