Job summary

Aldwych Consulting in Cardiff is seeking an Assistant Building Surveyor to support a wide range of Building Surveying activities within a dynamic multidisciplinary team.

You will gain hands-on experience across surveys, due diligence, reports, and contract administration while working towards MRICS through a structured APC programme.

The role offers exposure to varied sectors and modern digital surveying tools, with dedicated guidance from experienced colleagues.

Qualifications

  • BSc (Hons) Building Surveying degree, ideally RICS accredited, or equivalent.
  • Interest in progressing towards MRICS or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Some practical exposure through placements, internships or previous employment.
  • Understanding of building pathology, construction methods and statutory requirements.
  • Awareness of refurbishment, extension and project delivery processes.
  • Knowledge of CDM 2015, Building Safety and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Familiarity with JCT and/or NEC contract forms.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit or digital surveying technology would be advantageous.
  • Experience in education, healthcare, local authority, government or infrastructure environments would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Carrying out condition, measured and defect surveys.
  • Assisting with technical due diligence and building pathology investigations.
  • Producing professional reports, specifications, schedules of work and technical drawings.
  • Supporting Project Management and Contract Administration commissions.
  • Gaining exposure to pre- and post-contract work across JCT and NEC contracts.
  • Supporting refurbishment, maintenance and small-to-medium capital projects.
  • Working alongside multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects across sectors.
  • Contributing to building safety, sustainability and compliance assessments.
  • Developing understanding of CDM 2015 and Building Safety Act.
  • Building relationships with clients and supporting the delivery of a high-quality professional service.

An established and forward-thinking multidisciplinary consultancy is continuing to expand its Building Surveying team in Cardiff and is looking to appoint an Assistant Building Surveyor.

This is a great opportunity for someone at the early stages of their career who wants exposure to varied projects, different sectors and the full breadth of Building Surveying services, while being supported by experienced professionals.

The consultancy works with a diverse client base spanning public and private sector, education, defence, central government and infrastructure, giving you the chance to develop a genuinely well-rounded skill set.

For those working towards MRICS, there is a strong focus on professional development, with a structured APC programme, dedicated support and ongoing technical training.

What will you be doing?

You'll gain hands‑on experience across a broad range of Building Surveying activities, including:

  • Experience within education, healthcare, local authority, government or infrastructure environments would be beneficial, although not essential.
