Job summary

Aldwych Consulting Ltd in Cardiff is expanding its Building Surveying team and seeks an Assistant Building Surveyor at an early career stage. You will gain exposure to varied projects and sectors while being supported by experienced professionals through a structured APC programme.

There is active focus on professional development, with dedicated guidance from a Supervisor and Counsellor, and opportunities to work with modern surveying tools across pre- and post-contract work.

Qualifications

• BSc (Hons) Building Surveying degree, ideally RICS accredited.
• Interest in progressing towards MRICS or equivalent professional qualification.
• Placements, internships or previous employment giving practical exposure to Building Surveying.
• Understanding of CDM 2015, Building Safety and Health & Safety requirements.
• Familiarity with JCT and/or NEC forms of contract.
• Proficiency with MS Office; knowledge of AutoCAD/Revit or digital surveying tech is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out condition, measured and defect surveys.
• Assisting with technical due diligence and building pathology investigations.
• Producing professional reports, specifications, schedules of work and technical drawings.
• Supporting Project Management and Contract Administration commissions.
• Gaining exposure to pre- and post-contract work across JCT and NEC contracts.
• Supporting refurbishment, maintenance and small-to-medium capital projects.
• Working with multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects across sectors.
• Contributing to building safety, sustainability and compliance assessments.
• Developing understanding of CDM 2015 and Building Safety Act.
• Building relationships with clients and delivering a high-quality professional service.

What will you be doing?

• Some practical exposure to Building Surveying through placements, internships or previous employment.
• A developing understanding of building pathology, construction methods and statutory requirements.
• Awareness of refurbishment, extension and project delivery processes.
• Some experience or understanding of pre- and post-contract activities.
• An understanding of CDM 2015, Building Safety and Health & Safety requirements.
• Familiarity with standard forms of contract, particularly JCT and/or NEC.
• Good Microsoft Office skills.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit or digital surveying technology would be advantageous.
• Experience within education, healthcare, local authority, government or infrastructure environments would be beneficial, although not essential.
