Job summary

Michael Page is seeking a proactive Assistant Accountant to join a fast-paced, multi-entity finance team near The Wirral. You will support production of accurate financial information, drive process improvements and work with senior leadership on commercial decision-making.

Key responsibilities include monthly management accounts, trial balances, VAT returns, reconciliations, and audit support. The role offers hybrid working with strong development within a growing group.

Qualifications

• AAT Level 4 or early CIMA/ACCA studies.
• Experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar role.
• Strong month-end accounting knowledge.
• Proficient in accounting software and finance systems.
• Advanced Excel skills with Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs.
• Experience handling large data volumes.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-moving environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with monthly management accounts preparation.
• Produce trial balances, accruals and prepayments.
• Prepare VAT returns and support statutory reporting.
• Complete supplier, bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Analysing commercial agreements and financial data.
• Approve supplier payments and customer refunds within limits.
• Support regulatory and compliance reporting activities.
• Liaise with stakeholders to ensure financial accuracy.
• Assist with year-end audit preparation and requests.
• Identify opportunities to improve systems and reporting.
