Job summary

ACCA Careers is partnering with a fast-growing financial services group in the Liverpool area to appoint an Assistant Accountant. This role sits in a multi-entity environment and offers exposure to senior finance leadership.

You will support monthly management accounts, VAT returns, reconciliations, and year-end processes while driving improvements and ensuring strong controls. The successful candidate will have AAT 4 or be studying CIMA/ACCA, strong Excel skills, and a proactive mindset; hybrid

Qualifications

• AAT Level 4 or early CIMA/ACCA studying.
• Experience in assistant accounting or similar finance position.
• Strong understanding of month-end accounting processes.
• Proficient with accounting software and finance systems.
• Advanced Excel skills with PivotTables and VLOOKUPs.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts.
• Producing trial balances, accruals and prepayments.
• Preparing VAT returns and supporting statutory reporting requirements.
• Completing supplier, bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Analysing commercial agreements and financial performance data.
• Approving supplier payments and customer refunds within limits.
• Supporting regulatory and compliance reporting activities.
• Liaising with stakeholders across the wider business for accuracy.
• Assisting with year-end audit preparation and external requests.
• Identifying opportunities to improve systems, reporting and processes.

Description

Reporting into senior finance leadership, the Assistant Accountant support the production of accurate financial information across multiple entities while helping to drive process improvements and maintain strong financial controls.

Key Responsibilities Will Include

You'll likely be an experienced Assistant Accountant looking for a broader role within a growing organisation.

We're Interested In Speaking With Candidates Who Can Demonstrate

• AAT Level 4 qualification or early level CIMA/ACCA Studier
• Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar finance position
• Strong understanding of month-end accounting processes
• Experience using accounting software and finance systems
• Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs
• Experience working with large volumes of data
• Excellent attention to detail and organisation skills
• The ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-moving environment
• A proactive mindset and a desire to improve processes and ways of working
