Job Summary

The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 12,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Our diverse workforce includes roles such as trainers, human resources, teachers, psychologists, storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. Many different functions and professions deliver key outputs for the Army.

101 Regiment Royal Artillery requires an Administrative Officer to join a busy, diverse team based at their Gateshead Headquarters. The ‘Northumbrian Gunners’ are the Royal Artillery’s Army Reserve unit in the North East of England, and the only reserve unit to hold, maintain, and train on the armoured Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS). This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside both civilian and military personnel, providing administrative support, data input, and producing statistics/returns.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job Description

We are looking for enthusiastic, flexible, and highly motivated individuals with strong IT skills. The ability to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines is key, along with strong interpersonal skills. As an Administrative Officer, you will be responsible, as part of a team, for the daily functioning of the Regimental Administrative Office, working to the Regimental Administrative Officer to ensure pay and documentation are delivered in a timely and professional manner.

Key Responsibilities of an Administrative Officer
  • Work on your own initiative as well as being a team member.
  • Monitoring of a group mailbox.
  • Carry out administrative tasks supporting the day-to-day functioning of 101 Regiment Royal Artillery.
  • Arrange travel for military personnel via approved channels.
  • Assist in the administration of documents and record management in accordance with policy.
  • Maintain the unit SharePoint site.
  • Manage electronic and manual filing systems in accordance with policy and legislation.
  • Perform general office duties including note-taking, drafting letters, scanning.
  • Undertake regular compliance and assurance checks on military-specific systems – full training will be provided.

Salary: £26,235 plus £7,600 contribution towards Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. Other benefits include:

Additional Information

This role does not offer relocation expenses. External recruits will undergo a six-month probation period. Travel expenses for interviews are not reimbursed. The MOD is reviewing pay allowances, which may affect current allowances. Eligibility for this role is limited to UK nationals and certain other categories as detailed in the job posting.
