Job summary

NHS Blood and Transplant is seeking an Area Manager / Area Matron to lead blood donation services across a defined geographic area in the UK. The role focuses on visible and confident leadership, ensuring safe, high-quality, efficient services and an excellent donor experience.

You will develop people, manage resources, and drive change across NHSBT to maintain a safe supply of blood and components for patients.

Qualifications

• Substantial senior management and leadership experience in a clinical environment.
• Proven track record of improving service delivery and managing change.
• Strong leadership and negotiation skills with cross-organisational collaboration.
• Analytical, judgement and problem-solving skills with risk management.
• Experience managing clinical services within a regulatory environment and budgets.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage blood donation teams across a defined geographical area.
• Ensure donor and product safety and compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
• Motivate and develop a dispersed workforce and manage performance against KPIs.
• Champion an excellent donor experience and drive donor satisfaction and retention.
• Lead continuous improvement, efficiency, and quality across services.
• Oversee budgets, resources, premises, equipment and expenditure; drive efficiency while maintaining safety.
• Build relationships across NHSBT and work with managers, clinicians and stakeholders to deliver priorities.
• Lead recruitment, development, coaching and performance management of clinical and non-clinical colleagues.
