Job summary

Green Machine is seeking an Area Manager to oversee a portfolio of commercial cleaning contracts across Somerset. You will lead cleaning teams, build strong client relationships and ensure consistently high service standards.

You will be at the heart of operations, working with the Operations Director to ensure sites run smoothly, teams feel supported, and clients receive excellent service. This field-based role offers flexibility and growth opportunities within a family-owned business.

Qualifications

• 1+ year in commercial cleaning, facilities management, or soft services.
• Experience supervising teams across multiple locations.
• Strong communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Able to build positive relationships with employees and clients.
• Full, valid UK driving licence.
• Flexible, proactive and hands-on management approach.
• Experience managing multiple contracts and delivering high service standards.

Green Machine is looking for a motivated, proactive and experienced Area Manager to join our growing commercial cleaning business.

This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of a portfolio of commercial cleaning contracts across Somerset, ensuring consistently high standards of service while supporting our cleaning teams and building strong relationships with clients.

As an Area Manager, you’ll be at the heart of our operations, working closely with our Operations Director to ensure our sites run smoothly, our teams feel supported, and our clients receive an excellent service.

This is a varied, hands‑on, field‑based role, ideal for someone who enjoys being out and about, working with people and making a real difference.

Key Responsibilities

As an Area Manager, you will be responsible for:

• Managing and overseeing a portfolio of commercial cleaning contracts across Somerset.
• Conducting regular site visits, inspections and quality audits to maintain excellent cleaning standards.
• Leading, supporting and motivating cleaning teams across multiple client locations.
• Delivering staff inductions, training and ongoing operational support.
• Building and maintaining positive relationships with clients, ensuring their expectations are consistently met.
• Responding promptly and professionally to client queries, feedback and operational challenges.
• Monitoring site performance and identifying opportunities for service improvements.
• Working closely with the Operations Director and wider management team to support operational excellence and business growth.
• Ensuring company procedures, health and safety requirements and service standards are maintained across all sites.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is organised, approachable and confident managing both people and operations.

Essential requirements

• A minimum of 1 year's experience in commercial cleaning, facilities management or soft services management.
• Previous experience supervising or managing teams across multiple locations.
• Strong communication, organisational and problem‑solving skills.
• The ability to build positive working relationships with employees and clients.
• A full, valid UK driving licence.
• Confidence working independently and managing competing priorities.
• A flexible, proactive and hands‑on approach to management.

Experience managing multiple cleaning contracts and delivering high standards of customer service would be particularly beneficial.

Working Location & Flexibility

This is a field‑based position covering the whole of Somerset, requiring regular travel between client sites throughout the county.

The role offers a flexible working approach, with some administrative tasks that may be completed remotely.

As this is an operational management position, flexibility is essential, and working hours may occasionally vary to meet business and client requirements.
