Apprenticeship Coach - Engineering Operative (RLC)
Description

This role is ideal for someone who combines engineering or vehicle maintenance expertise with a passion for developing others. You'll coach and support Royal Logistic Corps (RLC) apprentices undertaking the Engineering Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship, helping them develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to succeed in military transport and logistics environments.

The role aligns with job titles such as Apprenticeship Coach, Engineering Trainer, Engineering Assessor, Vehicle Maintenance Instructor, Engineering Instructor, Technical Trainer, Mechanical Engineering Coach, or Vocational Trainer.

The Role

As an Apprenticeship Coach, you'll support learners through the early stages of their apprenticeship journey at the Defence School of Transport (DST), conducting coaching sessions, progress reviews, workplace observations and learner support activities.

Working closely with learners, military stakeholders and colleagues, you'll help apprentices achieve key milestones, remain engaged with their programme and prepare for successful progression to Gateway and End Point Assessment.

The role is primarily based at DST Leconfield, with occasional travel required to support wider apprenticeship activities. A driving licence is essential.

What You'll Own

You'll:

About You

You're an experienced engineering or vehicle maintenance professional who enjoys helping people learn and develop. You may come from a military, transport engineering, logistics, fleet maintenance, heavy vehicle, plant maintenance or automotive background. Most importantly, you're confident coaching others, communicating effectively and working independently to support learner success.

You'll likely bring:

  • Engineering, vehicle maintenance or transport engineering experience.
  • Coaching, mentoring, training or instructional experience.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Good organisational and planning abilities.
  • Experience working with safety, compliance and maintenance procedures.
  • Confidence using digital systems and learning platforms.
  • The ability to build positive relationships and motivate learners.
Essential

  • Knowledge of apprenticeship compliance, Gateway and End Point Assessment requirements.
  • Understanding of Ofsted quality frameworks and apprenticeship funding requirements.
  • Previous military service, particularly within transport, logistics, engineering or vehicle maintenance functions.
