Job description

If you are ready to kickstart your career in ICT or looking for a career change, we have an exciting opportunity to join our ever-growing Staffordshire ICT team where you will ensure our staff and partners can access ICT services using leading edge technology to meet their needs. You will work alongside our ICT Support Officers who have a successful track record of supporting our Apprentices on the ICT Service Desk to provide 1st line assistance for all hardware and software issues and requests from our service users. In addition, we will support you to complete Level 3 'Microsoft Azure Cloud Support Specialist' Apprenticeship with QA Limited where you will have access to support from a tutor as well as a peer group forum from QA's web portal. The training and experience you gain can be tailored to the needs of the organisation, but also your preferences too so that you can choose which area of ICT you might want to become an expert in and build a successful career with us. We look forward to your application and the potential to welcome you to our team. Please note we require successful candidates to be based on-site full-time for the first four weeks of their role for training and development purposes. Following this, hybrid working can be discussed with your line manager.

Main Responsibility

This is a varied role which will include:

  • Taking calls from Staffordshire County Council customers throughout Staffordshire and beyond.
  • Thinking on your feet and solving issues first line.
  • Developing our self-service customer portal to improve the customer experience and drive down support demands, and much more!, If we receive a high volume of applicants the next stage may be an automated video interview where we will send you a couple of questions for you to reply to with recorded video answers.

Final stage will be an in person assessment at our Stafford office which may include a quick task to test some of the skills needed for the basic elements of the role alongside interview questions. Final stage assessment will be held week commencing 21st Sept 2026. We anonymise applications during shortlisting to ensure only relevant information is considered. Please note: The minimum essential criteria in the ideal candidate section detailed above will be used if you are applying under one of our Interview Guarantee Schemes. This role will require a basic DBS check.

If you have some work experience, that's great but this is not essential. What is important is that you have a passion for ICT and you can show us that you are willing to always give your best, are ready to learn and strive for continual improvement. Working in ICT requires teamwork, organisational skills and a good level of competency using IT systems. We need you to show us you can be flexible in your approach to work as sometimes things can change and so you will need to be able to prioritise work and sometimes change tasks quickly.
