Technical Business Analyst (API Gateway)
Location: Knutsford, Cheshire and remote – 2–3 days in office per week.
Rate: £350 per day – Inside IR35.
Eligibility: BPSS clearance required. Payee status must be through umbrella.
Job Summary
We are seeking a Technical Business Analyst specializing in API Gateway solutions to bridge the gap between business needs and technical implementation. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of API technologies, integration patterns, and business process analysis. This role requires collaboration with multiple stakeholders to gather requirements, design API solutions, and ensure successful implementation of API Gateway capabilities that align with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications for API Gateway implementations.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand integration needs and document use cases.
- Work with technical teams to design API solutions that meet business requirements.
- Create detailed functional and technical documentation for API Gateway configurations.
- Develop and maintain API catalogs, specifications, and documentation.
- Perform gap analysis between current and future state API architectures.
- Support the testing and validation of API implementations.
- Facilitate workshops and meetings to gather requirements and present solutions.
- Monitor API usage, performance, and compliance with standards.
- Identify opportunities for API reuse and standardization across the organization.
- Stay current with API trends, standards, and best practices.
Required Skills and Experience
- 3+ years of experience as a Business Analyst in technical projects.
- Strong understanding of API Gateway concepts, patterns, and technologies.
- Experience with API management platforms (Apigee, MuleSoft, Kong, AWS API Gateway).
- Knowledge of API specifications and standards (REST, SOAP, OpenAPI/Swagger, JSON, XML).
- Experience in requirements gathering, documentation, and management.
- Understanding of integration patterns and microservices architecture.
- Familiarity with authentication and authorization protocols (OAuth, JWT, API keys).
- Experience creating technical documentation and diagrams.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with API testing tools and methodologies.
- Knowledge of database concepts and SQL.
- Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with Agile development methodologies.
- Familiarity with programming concepts and basic scripting.
- Knowledge of financial services industry and related regulations.
- Experience with API monetization strategies.
- Certifications in relevant API platforms or business analysis.
