HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) at Bristol Civil Justice Centre is seeking an Administrative Officer / Operational Support Officer. You will provide essential admin and operational support to ensure court services run smoothly and hearings proceed efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Process casework and update records and databases accurately.
  • Handle case files and sensitive information securely.
  • Support court users and signpost to services and information.
  • Assist with listing, scheduling and diary coordination.
  • Support jury administration where required.
  • Book interpreters and other professionals for hearings.
  • Liaise with judiciary, colleagues and external agencies.
  • Escalate complaints and report facilities or IT issues.
  • Carry out general administrative duties as required.

Administrative Officer / Operational Support Officer


HM Courts & Tribunals Service
Location: Bristol Civil Justice Centre, 2 Redcliff Street, Redcliffe, Bristol, BS1 6GR
Pay: £12.86 per hour, increasing to £13.25 per hour after 12 weeks
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, approximately 9:00am-5:00pm
Working Pattern: Full-time, office-based
Contract: 6 months, with possibility of extension
Start Date: ASAP
Clearance: DBS (to be applied by Brook Street upon succession)

About the Role


We are currently recruiting for an Administrative Officer / Operational Support Officer to join HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) at Bristol Civil Justice Centre.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within the justice system in a varied and people-focused role. You will provide essential administrative and operational support to help ensure court services and hearings run smoothly.
As one of the first points of contact for court users, members of the public, judicial office holders and partner organisations, you will provide a professional, helpful and impartial service. You may support individuals who are vulnerable or have additional needs, so empathy, resilience and excellent communication skills are important.

Key Responsibilities


Your duties may include:

  • Providing high-quality administrative and customer service support
  • Preparing for and supporting the smooth running of court hearings
  • Responding to enquiries face-to-face, over the telephone and through written and digital channels
  • Processing casework and accurately updating records and databases
  • Handling case files and sensitive information securely
  • Supporting court users and signposting them to appropriate services and information
  • Assisting with listing, scheduling and diary coordination
  • Supporting jury administration where required
  • Booking interpreters, intermediaries and other professionals for hearings
  • Liaising with judiciary, colleagues, external agencies and other justice partners
  • Dealing professionally with complaints and escalating issues where appropriate
  • Reporting facilities, health and safety or IT issues
  • Completing general administrative duties and other tasks according to business requirements
What We're Looking For


The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous administration and/or customer service experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good IT skills, including confidence using Microsoft Office and databases
  • Excellent attention to detail and accurate data-entry skills
  • The ability to organise and prioritise a varied workload
  • A professional and impartial approach when dealing with sensitive information
  • Confidence communicating with people from a wide variety of backgrounds
  • The resilience to remain calm and professional in challenging or potentially distressing situations
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to follow established procedures
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team


Previous knowledge or experience of HMCTS, courts or justice-sector procedures would be advantageous but is not essential.
