Job summary

The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced manager to lead the Emergency Department (North) reception and administration teams. The post holder will oversee rotas, annual leave, sickness management, and 1:1s, driving efficient and patient‑facing services.

You will provide daily admin support to ED Consultants and SAS Doctors, acting as a key contact for their administrative needs and contributing to continuous improvements in processes and patient care

  • Proven track record of improving administrative processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the ED Reception team to ensure appropriate staffing and efficient, patient‑centred reception.
  • Line manage administrative and clerical staff and day‑to‑day admin within the Emergency Department (North).
  • Provide daily administrative support to ED Consultants and SAS Doctors and coordinate their admin needs.
  • Collaborate with clinical, operational and administrative colleagues to improve systems and service delivery.

Role Summary

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day line management and supervision of the ED Reception team, ensuring appropriate staffing levels and the delivery of an efficient, professional and patient-focused reception service.

The Administrative Line Manager will be responsible for the line management of administrative and clerical staff and the day to day running of administrative functions within the Emergency Department (North).

They will provide leadership and support to reception staff, including responsibility for rotas, annual leave, sickness/absence management, 1:1s, appraisals, training, recruitment and performance matters, in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.

The post holder will also provide daily administrative and operational support to ED Consultants and SAS Doctors, acting as a key point of contact and assisting with the effective coordination of their administrative requirements.

Working closely with clinical, operational and administrative colleagues, the post holder will support the smooth day-to-day running of the Emergency Department, identifying and resolving issues and contributing to improvements in systems, processes and service delivery.
