Job summary

St Leonards School in St Andrews is seeking an enthusiastic Cover Supervisor (Ad Hoc) to maintain continuity of learning during short-term staff absences. You will supervise pupils in a central cover space, ensure set work is completed, and uphold a safe, respectful classroom environment in line with school policies.

The role focuses on managing pupil behaviour, delivering pre-set activities, and liaising with the School Office for duty allocations and attendance.

Qualifications

• Supervise pupils during cover in a central space.
• Maintain calm, safe learning environment and enforce classroom rules.

Responsibilities

• Supervise pupils in the centralised cover space during absence of the regular teacher, ensuring pupils stay on task and engaged.
• Deliver and explain pre-set work prepared by the subject teacher or Head of Department, providing guidance where appropriate.
• Collect completed classwork and return it to the relevant department or teacher.
• Ensure learning resources and ICT devices are distributed, used safely and collected.
• Assist pupils with understanding instructions without replacing the specialist input.
• Maintain a safe, orderly learning environment in line with school policies.
• Enforce high standards of behaviour, attendance, and punctuality; address disruptions promptly.
• Report significant behavioural concerns to the Head of Year.
• Promote positive relationships with pupils based on respect and encouragement.
• Report safeguarding concerns to the DSL or deputy.
