Job summary

Clark Wood is seeking an experienced Accounts Manager to join the Exeter team and manage a varied client portfolio including owner-managed businesses and SMEs. You will oversee statutory accounts, management accounts, VAT, bookkeeping and tax compliance, delivering high-quality accounting services with strong client liaison.

The role offers hybrid working, a competitive salary (£45,000-£60,000), and clear progression within a growing accountancy practice.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a UK accountancy practice.
• Experience managing a portfolio of clients.
• Strong knowledge of accounts preparation, management accounts and UK accounting standards.
• Experience working with owner-managed businesses and SMEs.
• Excellent communication skills with ability to build strong client relationships.
• Experience reviewing work and mentoring junior staff.
• ACA/ACCA qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage a diverse portfolio of clients including owner-managed businesses, SMEs and limited companies.
• Prepare and review statutory year-end accounts and financial statements.
• Oversee management accounts preparation and provide insight into business performance.
• Prepare and review VAT returns, bookkeeping and self-assessment tax returns.
• Review corporation tax computations and liaise with tax specialists where required.
• Act as main point of contact for clients, handling queries and providing proactive accounting advice.
• Build and maintain strong long-term client relationships.
• Support clients with business growth, tax planning and compliance requirements.
• Review work completed by Accounts Assistants and junior staff.
