Job summary

Nextech in Stoke-on-Trent is seeking a hands-on 2nd Line IT Support Engineer to back both office and production environments. The role covers infrastructure, applications, and networks, providing a varied day-to-day workload.

You’ll escalate, troubleshoot, and resolve issues across Microsoft 365, Windows Server, AD, and networking, while contributing to IT projects and ensuring documentation is up to date.

Qualifications

• Experience in 2nd line IT support, preferably in manufacturing or fast-paced environments.
• Solid knowledge of Microsoft technologies (Windows 10/11, Server, O365, AD).
• Networking basics: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls.
• Proactive troubleshooting mindset with strong problem solving.
• Excellent communication and ability to support colleagues at all levels.

Responsibilities

• Act as escalation point for 1st line issues and resolve promptly.
• Support Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Active Directory, and end-user devices.
• Troubleshoot networking technologies (LAN/WAN, firewalls, switches, routers, VPNs).
• Maintain and optimise critical systems that keep manufacturing operations running.
• Assist IT projects including cloud migrations, infrastructure upgrades, and system rollouts.

Do you enjoy solving complex IT challenges and want to be part of a business where technology truly underpins operations? We're looking for a 2nd Line IT Engineer to join a leading manufacturing company in Stoke-on-Trent, supporting both office and production environments.

This role is hands-on, varied, and gives you the chance to work across infrastructure, applications, and networks - no two days are the same.

What you'll be doing

• Escalation point for 1st Line issues, ensuring problems are resolved quickly and effectively.
• Supporting Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Active Directory, and end-user devices.
• Troubleshooting networking technologies (LAN/WAN, firewalls, switches, routers, VPNs).
• Maintaining and optimising critical systems that keep manufacturing operations running smoothly.
• Assisting with IT projects - including cloud migrations, infrastructure upgrades, and system rollouts.
• Producing clear documentation for systems, assets, and incidents.

What we're looking for

• Proven experience in 2nd Line IT Support (manufacturing or fast-paced environments a bonus).
• Solid knowledge of Microsoft technologies (Windows 10/11, Server, O365, AD).
• Networking know-how - TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls.
• Strong troubleshooting skills with a proactive approach.
• Excellent communication skills - able to support colleagues at all levels.
• Full UK driving licence (occasional travel may be required).
