Job summary

Equans is recruiting a Maintenance Assistant for the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth. The role is permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) with a shift pattern including days, evenings and weekends.

Salary is £27,000–£28,500 per annum plus a fixed monthly unsocial allowance of £233 and a benefits package. Reporting to Estates Management, you will support hospital maintenance services, promote excellent customer service, diagnose faults, and carry out tasks across trades as needed.

Qualifications

• NVQ in maintenance or equivalent experience required.
• Building maintenance and building systems knowledge.
• Basic competence with IT and PDAs.
• Working in a hospital environment desirable.
• Knowledge of other trades desirable.
• Knowledge of HTM's desirable.

Responsibilities

• Support the Estates Management in providing a 24hr maintenance service within the Portsmouth Hospital Trust.
• Promote a culture of customer service to internal and external customers and partners; liaise with other departments regarding maintenance issues.
• Undertake any other reasonable tasks and duties relevant to the post.
• Diagnose faults, repair and maintain complex equipment in line with HTMs and specialised hospital equipment after training.
• Carry out work of other trades when there is an interface to the current task; work with a level of competence outside core trade.
• Carry a radio or pager to enable immediate response.
• Work in challenging conditions, including unblocking drains and sewers with biological hazards and fumes.
• Replace lamps and clean all types of light fittings.
• Perform cleaning, labouring and driving tasks related to Estates maintenance as instructed.
• Observe Health & Safety at Work Act, COSHH, and Electrical IEE regulations.
