Job summary

National Highways is seeking a Control Room Operator based at our Regional Operations Centre in Potters Bar. You’ll be the first line of support for roadside calls, coordinating with emergency services and mobilising the right teams to act quickly, from setting road signs to directing response efforts.

The role operates 24/7 on rotating shifts and offers a starting salary up to £37,762.50 (rising to £39,262.50 after 9 months).

Qualifications

• GCSE Maths and English (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent.
• Willing to work shifts as part of a 24/7 cover.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Comfortable using technology and able to quickly learn new systems.

Responsibilities

• Monitor live traffic conditions using CCTV, sensors, and real-time data feeds to manage incidents.
• Coordinate responses with police, fire services, and local authorities to ensure safety and swift action.
• Provide accurate information to road users and update digital road signs as required.
• Assist with coordination of road maintenance and upgrades to minimise disruption.
