Job summary

Academics Ltd is seeking 1:1 Teaching Assistants to support pupils with special educational needs in primary and SEN settings across Stoke-on-Trent. Roles are temporary, full-time, with potential for long-term roles based on performance and client need.

You will provide 1:1 support for learners with ASC, ADHD, speech and language needs and SEMH, helping with learning, behaviour, and inclusion under school staff supervision.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with children or young people with special educational needs.
• Enhanced DBS registered with Update Service or willing to apply for a new DBS.
• Full-time availability (Monday–Friday).
• Able to travel to Stoke-on-Trent partnership schools by 8:30am with short notice for on-the-day cover.

Responsibilities

• Providing high quality 1:1 support/interventions for learners with diverse needs.
• Support learners to develop essential skills and engage in learning.
• Implement strategies to promote emotional regulation and independence.
• Work with teaching staff, SENCO, and external agencies as needed.
• Assist the class teacher in adapting activities and resources.

Job description

Academics are currently looking for 1:1 Teaching Assistants for temporary full-time short and long-term supporting roles within our client primary schools, SEN schools, and SEN provisions. Working across Stoke-on-Trent can be diversified, meaning that we do have different requirements to suit.

We are proud to say that here at Academics we have had a strong record of placing many of our 1:1 Teaching Assistants into permanent work following a successful period of long-term supply within our schools and provisions.

Responsibilities of a 1:1 Teaching Assistant:

• Providing high quality 1:1 support/interventions for learners who have with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, Speech and Language needs, SEMH, and other learning difficulties.
• Support learners to develop essential skills, build social connections, and engage actively in learning.
• Implement tailored strategies to promote emotional regulation, resilience, and independence.
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCO, and external agencies when needed.
• Assisting the class teacher in adapting classroom activities and resources for the learner.
• Managing behaviour and engaging learners with their own learning.
• The ability to create and foster an inclusive and safe learning environment for all of the learners within your class and the wider school community.

For this role, candidates who apply must have:

• Previous experience working with children or young people with special educational needs.
• Calm, resilient, and to be able to remain consistent under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Able to build trusting relationships and implement clear structures and routines.
• Empathetic, flexible, and committed to long-term support for the learner.
• Full-time availability (Monday-Friday) to provide consistent support for the learner.
• Be happy to travel and to be able to get to our partnership schools in Stoke-on-Trent by 8.30am with sometimes only 30-60 minute's notice for our on the day cover requirements.
• A good level of literacy and numeracy skills.
• A current Enhanced DBS that is registered with the Update Service, or you will be prepared to apply for a new DBS with ourselves (cost applied).

Please be aware that your daily rate will be dependent upon experience, prior qualifications, training, and the client rate that is currently available.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate's qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client's pay policy
