Job Description for 1:1 Teaching Assistant

You will provide support for our students, ensuring that the education provided is of high quality and that students are supported, motivated, and challenged.

Your main duties will include:

  1. Engaging in interventions both in and out of lessons to foster effective participation of students in social, behavioural, and academic processes.
  2. Working with the team to implement behaviour management strategies and develop relationships with vulnerable students with complex needs.
  3. Liaising with other agencies to ensure student needs are fully met.
  4. Supporting teachers in delivering engaging and successful lessons.
  5. Leading small groups of students in defined activities.

Qualifications
  • A relevant professional qualification (NVQ Level 2)
  • Level 2 English and Maths
Person Specification

You should have a good standard of education. The role is supportive, requiring you to learn aspects of behaviour management and demonstrate skills in de-escalation. We are looking for candidates who:

  • Have high expectations of student behaviour and strategies for challenging students.
  • Can motivate and encourage children appropriately.
  • Can work independently, supported by the teacher, with groups or individual students.
  • Have experience working with challenging students, understanding their needs, and applying effective behaviour management strategies.
  • Have experience teaching children with EAL, SEN, speech and language difficulties, or other complex needs.
  • Can establish and maintain good relationships with colleagues, parents, and external contacts.
Additional Information

Contract: 37 hours per week, term-time only plus 2 weeks, fixed term until July 2026.

Salary: £24,193.00 FTE
