Job summary

Protocol Education is recruiting a dedicated 1:1 Autism Teaching Assistant in Sunderland to support a pupil in a specialist SEND environment. You will work closely with the pupil to access lessons, manage transitions, and foster independence throughout the school day.

The role is term-time full-time with 8:30am-3:30pm hours, paying £98-£120 per day depending on experience. DBS checks, safeguarding training, and ongoing support are provided.

Qualifications

• Patient, calm and observant demeanour essential.
• Reliable, resilient and warm approach required.
• Experience with autism is desirable; transferable care/youth work also considered.

Responsibilities

• Provide consistent 1:1 support to the pupil.
• Build a trusting professional relationship.
• Assist access to lessons and learning activities.
• Help manage transitions between activities.
• Support emotional and sensory regulation.
• Encourage communication and independence.
• Record and communicate observations.
• Collaborate with teaching and SEND teams.
